Are Vango Tents Any Good?

Vango tents are well worth buying, and this is because they're waterproof, breathable, and available in a range of sizes.

In short, they tick all the boxes for an ideal camping tent and will therefore suit your outdoor shelter needs.

Furthermore, the Vango tents also boast special technologies, which improve overall protection and everything. I would recommend it.

Of course, my explanation might be anecdotal, but I've had extensive experience with Vango tents, especially during my stay in England, where I get they're much more common than in the US.

Over my camping life, I've tried Vango tents, and I don't have a bad word to say about them.

Vango tents are not premium but far from being rubbish. Instead, I consider them the "middle of the road" tents, better designed to perform than the budget tents. But not with the ultra-light design or feature-packed as the more serious tents.

They balance price and functionality and offer good value for your money.

But, of course, don't take my word for it. You must do your homework before making a Vango tent purchase to ensure you get an option suiting your camping needs.

The truth is, Vango, as with most other tent manufacturers, has incredible tents, but I'm pretty sure they also have a few howlers.

About Vango the Brand

Vango is a Scottish brand and boasts a strong heritage in the outdoor equipment world. Unfortunately, it's not a popular outdoor brand in the US, but that doesn't make it much lesser.

However, it's influential in the UK and has been around for more than 50 years; it strikes images of relevance and competence in the outdoor gear manufacturing scene.

It has a 34% share of the UK outdoor gear market, and many campers in the UK are big fans of Vango. I own a couple of these tents, and I know many friends who have tents from the same brand.

The brand is principally known for its tents and collaborates proud partnerships with The Duke of Edinburg's Award, The Scout Association, and The Shelter Box Trust.

What's So Good About Vango Tents?

Vango Tents Pricing

Vango is generally a middle-of-the-road tent brand; most tents aren't too expensive or cheap.

However, it also makes a variety of tents, small to large and budget to premium. And therefore, you'll find Vango tents at varying price points.

For example, the cheapest Vango tent is the Soul, a one-person tent in the range of $50 to $70, depending on the retailers.

But because it's a budget option, it's highly unlikely it's practical for different applications and can't stand up to abuse.

On the other end, Vango offers Anantara 650XL. It's a behemoth and comes with all the bells and whistles of premium tents, including the proprietary AirBeam system.

The Anantara is super expensive but well worth it, especially if you need a camping tent that can accommodate a family and has special features for the ultimate luxury.

But as I hinted previously, Vango tents are generally value picks, striking a balance between functionality and price.

Vango Tents Material

I trust Vango tents, and I would go Vango all the way. See, I've Vango Banshee and the Tempest. The Tempest is spacious, with more headroom, but the Banshee is bombproof, and I've never had any issues so far.

A signature feature of all the Vango tents is they use Sentinel fabrics, which combine all the desirable properties of polyester and cotton.

The material is water-resistant, breathable, soft, and ultra-light. All the benefits you would need for your tent.

In addition, the fabric has a UPF50+ rating, which is handy when camping in the sun and you want to shield yourself against damaging UV rays.

In short, the materials used to make Vango tents will provide a long-lasting, dependable, and performance-oriented tent.

But I must mention that Vango has different levels of quality in their tents, hence the varying price difference.

Understand you get what you pay for. For example, I wouldn't trust my life on the $40 Vango Alpha, but my Vango Tempest can withstand wind and rain.

Vango Tents Durability

On a nostalgic note, I inherited a Vango tent from my dad when I was 14. It was old but well-maintained.

I can tell you that the Vango tents saw me through the next seven years of my teenagehood, including numerous festivals, road trips, and wild camping.

Over the period, I didn't experience any leak, though I never re-proofed it. The tent didn't even mind getting filled with vomit once I discovered alcohol.

To its very last day, the Vango tent performed just as well as the first day I got it. And so, regarding durability, you can never go wrong with Vango.

I've used mine for ages, and they're the best tents you could get for your money. And the best bit is they're British.

Vango Tents Performance

Vango tents are Scottish and are made for the Scottish weather, which is often windy or wet. They also emphasize ventilation, which is godsent in wet climates.

Most Vango tents survive anything you through and are great in heavy rain. They're pretty tough and will withstand harsh weather, including strong winds.

For example, I've had my Vango Banshee for ten years, and it has survived everything I've put it through. My only gripe is that it's not long enough for my height.

Otherwise, I would suggest you go for Vango tents if you don't want to spend too much on a tent and don't want to get crushed by the wind.

Vango Tents Designs

Vango tents come in a huge variety of tents for different camping applications. Their tents range from one-person bivy tents to massive family tents.

Their mini, one-person market is quite a niche. If you need ultra-light, solo-camping gear and are worried about your height, consider the Vango bivy tents.

Looking at their display, it's clear that Vango has a specific tent to suit every need.

My Favorite Vango Tent

I've had a Vango Banshee 200 for the last couple of years, and it's fantastic in every way. It's easy and quick to put up, and its performance in inclement weather is WOW.

While not spacious, I've used it along with my kit and dog, for which it has been excellent.

My only concern with this tent is that it's not great for winter, especially since it lets in too much air and low flow for cold weather, at least for one person and his dog.

Otherwise, it checks on most of the best camping tent boxes. I would recommend it.
